Overview of project:
- Special guests Nancy Rowe from New Credit First Nation and Isaac Murdoch from Serpent River First Nation spoke to the classes about the dire situation in Manitoba
- Students decides to make baby moccasins to send out west to the First Nations Family Advocate Office as a way of showing support
- Students also had an opportunity to listen to Manitoba Family Advocate Cora Morgan who phoned into the class on speaker phone to talk about the stark realities they are facing: 40 babies a month are being taken from hospital
- A special ceremony was held to acknowledge the babies being taken into CFS and to present the moccasins
- Students created a video campaign as well to help spread the message
Pictures from the project:
After the moccasins were made, Colinda Clyne and Nancy Rowe flew out to Manitoba to deliver the baby moccasins.
A beautiful ceremony was performed upon arrival of the moccasins.

Just one week after receiving the moccasins we received this message from Cora Morgan who works at the Family Advocate Office in Manitoba:
Last Friday, Nancy Rowe and Colinda Clyne delivered these beautiful baby mocassins made with love by students from Brampton, Ontario.
Our office was contacted by a family whose baby was at risk of apprehension. We went to visit the baby who was born this afternoon and presented a gift of a pair of the mocassins. The Mother was very touched and shared that she was wishing for mocassins for her baby.
I shared with the parents how the mocassins came to be and they were so very proud to receive them.
Kitchi Miigwetch to Isaac Murdoch and Jodie Williams!
We hope this baby gets to go home.
