32 pairs of moccasins made!
Students as Researchers are delivering Cultural Competency Training Sessions to classroom teachers to support their understanding of Indigenous Knowledge. Students started with the KAIROS blanket exercise to set the context of learning with a focus on the children of the communities and the traumatic impact of removing children in the community through Residential Schools & 60s Scoop. After debriefing the Blanket Exercise, the students then move the teachers into a session where they share how children in our communities are still being targeted and use the Moccasin Project to support understanding of that. Teachers create baby moccasins and learn about child apprehension through the Moccasin Project. One teacher has already brought the project back to her school and has shared it with her school. Another teacher will be doing it with her class on April 6. The learning for the teachers was so valuable in supporting their understanding of Indigenous Knowledge.
